Welcome to Snic.US
Snic.US is the technology playground of Ravsonic Studios (http://www.ravsonic.com).
Products or services that aren't quite ready for mass consumption will be featured here. We'll also have little scripts and gizmos that we wish to give away for free or provide under Open Source licenses.
Vicinity
Vicinity is a mobile web application that using the new HTML 5 location API to determine your current location and display recent posts to Twitter that occurred in your area. It's a simple application, but it's purpose is to demonstrate one of many new things that can be accomplished with HTML 5.
Vicinity is designed to work on mobile phones and is currently compatible with iPhone 3.0 and Android. However, the latest beta version of Firefox also include the location spec, so it will work, too. Furthermore, due to Android support, any browser that has the Google Gears plugin installed should work.
All Ravsonic projects posted on Snic.US are provided as-is with no warranty. It's a playground, not a marketplace.
Pitstop
Pitstop is yet another HTML 5 location demonstration. This time, it is in the form of a Google Local Search and Google Maps mashup. Rather than poll your location once, Pitstop uses the watchLocation() event to continuously monitor your location.
Pitstop displays a map with a marker showing your location. As you drive (or walk) around, the map is updated automatically without page refreshes, providing the same user experience normally associated with native iPhone and Android mapping applications. Furthermore, a list of nearby Google Local Search results is displayed and updated as you move, making it easy to find desired stops while traveling.
EARLY PREVIEW. Pitstop is currently under development. As such, it's interface will be change drastically in the coming days to improve the user experience. Pitstop is designed to work on mobile phones with state-of-the-art web browers, such as iPhone 3.0 and Android. While the application will work with other location-enabled desktop browsers, the full experience will be missed (because you can't exactly get live updating from your laptop - unless you've got a GPS in it).
